Breaking a soda habit can be a hard thing to do — take it from a reformed (and then relapsed…and then reformed…and then relapsed…) soda drinker. However, we’ve got a list of healthy drinks that aren’t just plain water to help you on the days when you’re struggling.

A List of Healthy Drinks: 10 Fun Ways to Stay Hydrated

1. Smoothies

Smoothies are a delicious and refreshing way to enjoy fruit and can be made easily at home with a blender or food processor. If you’re looking to lose weight, beware — smoothies can be laden with sugars and may not be the best option. However, if you’re looking for a treat or staving off a craving, a smoothie may be just what you’re looking for.

2. Almond Milk

Not only does almond milk make a great substitute for coffee creamer or regular milk when cooking, it can also be enjoyed by itself as a tasty, creamy beverage. Serve it cold or heat it up. My personal favorite way to enjoy a cold glass of almond milk is with a sprinkle of chia seeds and a handful of blueberries for a morning “cereal” — you can find the recipe here.

3. Iced Coffee

Maybe you love your coffee hot or maybe you’re looking for something a little off the beaten path. Either way, iced coffee is a delicious beverage that carries a big caffeine punch with little to no calories — bazinga! Throw in some honey and almond milk for a delicious way to start your morning…or afternoon.

4. Sparkling Water

Don’t knock it till you try it. I always found sparkling water to be repulsive until…I did my first Whole30 and desperately needed something to keep me from craving soda. Now, I drink LaCroix like they’re going out of style. I fan girl out every time a new flavor is released. I might as well buy stock in the company, which is a nice change from my extreme Dr. Pepper addiction of yesteryear.

5. Unsweetened Infused Tea

Whether you order an unsweet tea while out to eat or experiment with hot, flavor-infused teas like ginger tea or green tea, unsweetened tea (or tea lightly sweetened with honey) can make for a great afternoon pick me up when you’re itching for a Diet Coke.

6. Coconut Water

Want to get your island on? Not only is coconut water healthy and low in calories, it’s also great for post-workout hydration. Unlike infused water or flavored water created by adding fruit, coconut water is actually the liquid found inside coconuts.

7. Kombuchalist of healthy foods

Kombucha is a probiotic-packed tea with some flavoring added in for taste. Although the verdict is still out on whether or not probiotics make you healthier, many people claim that drinking kombucha can improve your gut health, leading to many other positive health effects.

Like smoothies, kombucha tends to carry a lot of added sugar, so drink in moderation or avoid it all together if you’re looking to lose a few pounds.

8. Fresh Pressed Juicelist of healthy drinks

Some people will tell you fresh-pressed juice is the healthiest thing you can put in your body. Others will tell you fresh-pressed juice is a fad and that it can have negative effects on your health when used as your exclusive nutrition source.

We’re not nutritionist, so we’ll leave the decision up to you, but like most things, we support juicing in moderation. It’s a great way to get in a few extra vegetable servings and can also help you to get nutrients from foods you don’t like (*cough cough* spinach). There are thousands of recipes across the Internet for juicing combinations. In my humble opinion, it’s best to stick with two parts vegetables, one part fruit for a tasty but healthy drink.

9. Infused Water

Infused water is a simple and fun way to dress up your regular H20. You can make your own combinations — check out some of our favorites here. Infusing your water with fruit (or vegetables if you’re feeling froggy!) adds a new level of flavor and also just looks really really cool.

10. Broth

Some people swear bone broth is the new cure for cancer. Although there are some disputes about the magical effects of consuming bone broth on a regular basis — read more about it here — bone broth is a healthy drink alternative to add to your regular rotation.

The cool thing about bone broth? You can actually make your own and it’s perfect for cold mornings or snowy nights.
